Opposed the evil Govenor , Sir Hugh Vaughan the Tailors son from Wales a biograghical note on him by Balleine says he was a very fine horseman The tone is set against him by a Jury in 1531 which charges him of “Where he says of ravishing certain girls it is recieved beyond doubt as true” He had been a friend of Helier and had appointed him as Bailiff in 1513 ,but this quickley soured and on one occasion Helier drew his swrowd against the Govenor in the Royal Court and that event is commemmorated to this day by the fact that the Governors chair is set below that of the Bailiff to indicate the Primacy of the Bailiff in the Court .The row between de Carteret and Vaughan went to London where Vaughan bribed Cardinal worsley with 500 gallons of wine the case in the Star Chamber was delayed the end result 1529 Duke of Norfolk lent Helier £500 Worsley was arrested Case was to the latters removeal in 1530.Return to Jersey exercised his Office as Bailiff.
