FATAL BOATING ACCIDENT
Three Sark Fishermen Drowned
On Saturday last three Sark Fishing boats visted Guernsey with their catches for the Market.
They started the return voage about 9 in the morning and though there was a stiff breeze blowing there was saarcely suffcient to cause any apprehension . All went well until they were off Sark between the Eperquerie and Creux Harbour about a mile from land when one of them was struck by a strong Puff of wind off the land and was seen to capsize; the first boat reaching the harbour safely ,it was then found that the boat which dissappeared belonged to Messrs Hamon and de Carteret.
The boat following saw the catastrophe and cruised over the spot where the no 2 boat had disappeared and succeedded in picking up two sculls and two or three parcels , but saw nothing of the occupants.
It has since been ascertained that the unfortunate men were John Hamon and Abrham de Carteret and his son living next door to each other at La Ville Roussel , which over looked the very spot where they were lost.
Both men were fishermen and leave widows and large families who were left totally unprovided for . Such a Catastrophe is a sorry beginning of our Island Winter and it was to be hoped that some means of will have promptly adopted to relive the distress thus
occasioned12
