George worked in the turn of the century as a Horse bus driver,working the St Martins to St Peter Port Town route along with W T Watson ,The known operators at that time were Davey’s Stables also Perchards.
W T Watson died in November 1943. All so on the Coaching sceen was Georges father in law John Freeman Welch all working within the profession,horsemanship required more than the ability to drive a coach and four ,the care for the animal was paramount and required long hours before and after the drive ,also the need to be able to adminster veternary care.
At the start of WW.2 The Germans arrived ,he was required to Register on his I D .form No.16868 he gave his address as Laurestinus Les Hubits St Martins and occupation as Gardener,indication of the fact he could not read or write he put a x as his mark ,signed by G Wise Douzenier 26 Oct 1940
Later in his life he was to retire to St Johns Hostel , Where he meet HRH Princess Margaret on her vist this seemed to please him. It was there that he was to spend his time helping the gardeners ,as gardening was one of his pastimes ,also a contributing to his final illness or injury a hernia , moving a wheel barrow full of soil .this was repaired .but he never came around or awoke ,which ever was the case ,dying at the age of 88
