Notes for John Freeman Welch
John Freeman lived in Chard st Thorncombe,he would go to Guernsey in 1873 and marry his
cousin Mary Ann Hitchcock on the 12 Oct 1873 in st Martins Church,by Licence with the Rev
Charles Robinson officaiting.
Johns parents are not to be found in Thorncombe at this time I belive they had already left to
go to Guernsey, they apear as sponsors for Sarah Jane on the 26 August 1854 along with Ann
Cornelius, the mystry Cornelius, who keeps croping up but there is no possitive relationship that
one can relate to. Only a un proven fact of a Ann Welch Marring on the 17 May 1832 James
Cornelius
The Hitchcocks appear as Samuel said he had been in the Island 6 years in June 1851 and had
three children, this statement was made when Samuel applied for relief after a accident in Herm
while working for the Quarry Co.and damaged his hand applied for Relief from Constables of St Peter Port
