Henri De Carteret, Jean Baker and William Le Page, natives of Sark, were produced on the strength of certain reports that they had been guilty of unhanging gates, losing cattle and obstructing the road. There was not the slightest particle of evidence that any of the accused, who bore the appearance of being respectable men, had been at all concerned in any of the acts imputed to them. They were consequently discharged; their Counsel’s Messrs MacCulloch and Gallienne, intimating that proceedings would be taken in order to discover the authors of the calumnious reports concerning their clients.
