Notes for Renaud Reginald De Carteret
This Renaud was implicated in the execution of William le Ferve ,for treason as a result of the capture of Castle Cornet by the French in 1356/7.When it became known in Jersey that the French had captured Castle Cornet a Relief was ordered to go to thier aid.
The French had been in the castle for some months when relief arrived on regaining the castle the
commander surrendered in return for his own release.
Le Ferve was held for treason and executed, his wife Nicola appealed to the Royal Court, that her husband had been killed because of an “ancient enmity and thier own malice”The accused were found guilty and banished.Sir Renauld along with Raoul Lempriere.appealed against this as thier fellow islanders, the responsibilty lay as much with them as with the codemned, both of them were adjudged to be guilty of Le Ferves death, they were all imprisoned, and later pardoned.by Edward 111.
