On the 14 Febuary 1650 King Charles ii while in Coutances Normandy made a grant of the office of Sheriff of Guernsey to Edward de Carteret and to his son John,successively,and to the survivor of them.On the 8th of September 1660 Edward who was living in Guernsey, produced his warrant of apppointment to the Royal Court and was sworn in as Sheriff on the 4th May 1661 in place of Abraham Carey on whom had fallen the duty of reading the Proclamation of Accession.
