A stable Hay Loft Cart and shed were burned Saturday 29 May
On going over the Debris Stephen found what he though was Human remains
Consisting of a Skull and other bones so much charred when picking them up fell to bits
the Papers of the day said It was supposed to that some one
had gone there to sleep and accidentally caused the fire thereby perishing in flames
The Building was covered by Insurance for some £40 south British Ins Office

An early arrival in Papakura district Mr Stephen Philip de Carteret who lived at Pandora Road , Otahuhu,
died age 86 .He was a Veteran of the Wars with the Maoris having served in the Militia
He was Born in Jersey Channel Islands and arrived with his Parents December 1859 settling here in 1862
He was employed in the Thames Goldfields, and returning here went in for farming for 40 Years in the Manurewa district . Later on moved to Othuhu where he farmed , later on became a member of the Road Board
He is survived by his children Mr C Mrs JF Freshney of Manurewa and Miss of Othuhu
