A WIDELY -TRAVELLED GUERNSEYMAN

The Late Warrant Officer .A.T. de Carteret
The death occured on monday at Chester House The Bridge St sampsons
of Warrant Officer (Carprnter ) Alfred Thomas de Carteret a Guernsey Man whose travels during his 33.1/2 years service
in the Royal Navy had taken him every ware but “ Austrailia” to use his own summing up of his life’s carear.
He was the third son of Steven de Carteret of Lancress , in his early years was apprenticed to Mr Peter Ogier Shipbuilder of St sampsons.where he learnt his trade at the age of 21 he entered the merchant service and made several foreign Voages .
Entering the Navay , served as a seaman Carpenter , and was attached to many ships among them .
Agincourt , Northumberland , Hood , Himalaya ,and Hyacinth , nine years service was spent as a Diver he had many
thrilling stories to tell of this part of his service . He rose rapidlily and retired on a pension 16 years ago at the age of 55..
He Then purchased Eden Place at Lancress , took up growing and occasional Fishing , more a recreation , failing health compelled him to cease work during the past few years. The immeadiate cause of death was Paralysis (Stroke).
